What we do

the World of Material Sensing

The same way humans have a unique fingerprint, materials have a unique optical fingerprint. The use of certain technologies makes those fingerprints visible and allows us to identify, differentiate, and quantify materials and their compositions. This is what we call Material Sensing, and we build miniaturized spectroscopic sensors for it.

How it works

Explore the world of Material Sensing

The fundamental technology behind Material Sensing is VIS-NIR spectroscopy. When using this type of spectroscopy, a sample is irradiated by near-infrared light. Using the algorithms developed by our team, the content of the sample can be identified by the wavelengths of the reflected light. We utilize our technology to make near-infrared spectroscopy mass market ready.

With the help of our novel sensors, materials, e.g., food, agricultural products, textiles, and pharmaceuticals can be analyzed and quantified with minimal effort.

What makes our technology unique

High-impact sensors using next level nir spectroscopy

A novel sensor solution offering a broad range of benefits – moving spectroscopy out of the lab and into your pocket.

Broad spectral covery

Broad spectral coverage

Our sensor is capable of capturing selected wavelengths of light in the range of 400 to 1800nm. This means that we can cover the visible (VIS) as well as the near-infrared (NIR) spectrum on a single chip.

Small

Robust, small & mobile

Less components, more flexibility. Our powerful Material Sensing technology works without any optical elements such as gratings. The resulting monolithic sensors are robust, small, and mobile friendly.

Low Cost

Low cost

Since our VIS-NIR spectroscopic sensors are based on organic electronics, they are low cost and ideally suited for mass market applications such as home appliances and mobile electronics.

Customizable

Fully customizable

Using our hardware, software, and customer service, you can mix and match the tools you need to develop your ideal Material Sensing solution. The result is a product perfectly adapted to your application and your needs.

Fast

Fast & flexible

It used to take several days to send samples to a laboratory and receive the results. Now it takes less than a minute to analyze those samples, the results are accessible instantly, and are automatically saved in your measurement history.

Easily interpretable

Easily interpretable results

Working with our technology, you do not require extensive knowledge or prior experience. Our software provides you with easily interpretable results, accessible to anyone, anywhere.

Future possibilities

Exploring further applications and industries

Material Sensing is a very powerful and versatile technique, making it nearly impossible to get an overview of all its potential applications and use cases. To give a better idea of the industries that could benefit from it, we have specified a few examples below.

Applications-and-industries_Food

Food

Analyze food and determine its quality on the spot

Never has it been easier to analyze food – at the supermarket, at a restaurant, or in the kitchen. Determine the ripeness of fruit, and identify common ingredients such as water, fat, protein, sugar, alcohol and many more

Applications-and-industries_Pharma

Pharmaceuticals

Identify medical pills instantly and effortless

One of, if not the most important factor when it comes to pharmaceuticals, is safety. That’s why it’s so beneficial to have a simple solution to identity medical pills and active agents, and determine the purity of raw medical ingredients.

Applications-and-industries_Paper-and-pulp

Production

Determine the quality of paper to enhance production

Analyze the quality of paper and pulp, measure moisture levels or find out more about paper composition to enhance existing production processes. These are only a few of the possibilities for the paper and pulp industry.
